Green Habits

Switch to Smart Thermostats

Switching to a smart thermostat saves energy, especially from fossil-fueled power plants; saving energy also saves money, the environment, and fewer power plants are required. About 16.5% of energy was saved in UK households.

Wash Your Clothes Less Often

Usually material in your clothes contains microplastics. Also, your clothes end up shedding countless microplastics into the environment; unfortunately, microplastics take a long time to decompose, so they tend to stay in the environment for a long period of time. In the ocean, about 14 million tons of microplastic is released because of washing clothes frequently. The presence of microplastic in the ocean is also harmful to the animals that live there.

Limit Food Waste

Wasting food leads to producing gases that are extremely emissive such as methane. The result of gases being released into the environment is because of countless food in landfills. Harmful emissions to the air are harmful for people and animals because they are breathing in toxic air. The UK produced 9.5 million tonnes of food waste in 2018, the equivalent of 25 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.

Switch to Electric Cars

Typical diesel and petrol-fuelled cars are the main causes of global warming; these types of cars tend to release carbon dioxide which leads to numerous changes such as climate change. About 91% of total emissions comes from diesel and petrol-fuelled cars. Electric cars are eco-friendly and don’t release any toxic air.

Use Electricity Wisely

Make sure to unplug electric devices when they’re not being used. If electricity is used unnecessarily, then it leads to more energy being required. If more energy is required, then there’s more toxic air going to be released into the air. If electricity is used properly and precisely, then it could lead to less energy waste and less pollution.

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle

The phrase, “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” is vital because it separates certain materials and keeps them neatly in various bins. For example, cans are kept in the cans bin and paper is kept in the paper bin! It helps save more landfill space because various objects are thrown into landfill spaces. It also saves materials which can be used to make other products or recyclables.
